A childs first dental visit is important because it sets the tone for future visits. It should be scheduled around the child's 2nd birthday, though we encourage an earlier visit if there are any dental concerns by the parents or the pediatrician. Kids do better in the morning hours, so try and schedule a morning appointment if your schedule allows.
We try to allow the child to set the pace of the visit but with a frightened youngster we just proceed quickly to examine and clean the teeth. The children calm down when they see that it's an easy procedure. This is a new experience with many new faces so often the first visit is indicative to how the child will behave in the future.
Most often the child leaves with a smile on their face and a toy in their hand!
